FTC sues Amazon over alleged secret ad auction manipulation

The FTC and 22 state attorneys general allege Amazon secretly rigged its Sponsored Products second-price auctions since 2018, letting it collect about 20 billion dollars beyond fair auction outcomes. Amazon denies the claims and vows to fight in court.

Why it matters. Advertisers now have no way to audit auction logs themselves, leaving verification of Amazon’s bidding claims solely to the FTC’s subpoena power.
